On Monday, February 13th, an official announcement was made that New York Giants Wide Receiver, Victor Cruz, was released.
After a calf and knee injury, Cruz under-performed throughout the 2016 season although he impressively only missed one game, according to cbssports.com. The 30 year old ended last season with only 39 catches and 1 touchdown which couldn’t quite justify his $9.4 million salary cap. By releasing Cruz, the Giants organization has freed up $7.5 million in cap space.
It’s funny how sports work. You can be that “it dude” at one moment, and then fade to the background quickly after. Once fellow teammate, Odell Beckham Jr. was drafted to the team, the spotlight was quickly taken from Cruz. His injury/surgery played into that as well.
As of now, Victor Cruz is a free agent and will soon have to start making decisions about his future in the NFL?
With his underwhelming performance from last season, how likely is it for another team to scoop him up?
