Does anyone else remember The Box? I feel like I’m the only one who remembers and it’s so frustratinggg (lol). For those who don’t know, The Box was a music video network where you would call a number and order a music video that you wanted to watch. It would cost about a dollar and some change and the charge would come off of your phone bill.
I remember being home and calling my dad while he was at work asking if it was alright from me to order a video. I would then tape the video on using our VCR so that I wouldn’t have to order it again. This was life before YouTube (haha). The 90s was a really great time in the music industry where you can probably relate every classic to chapter in your life.
For example, I was in the fourth grade when I received my very FIRST CD’s! It was Christmas of 1997 and my dad got me Usher’s “My Way” and Mariah Carey’s “Butterfly.” Two albums which I still consider 90’s classics today.
Yes, yes, yes–the 90’s was a time when I started to discover my musical taste. Before my taste began to broaden in my teenage years once I picked up guitar lessons, R&B was what first felt closest to my spirit. Today, it’s still the genre I can always listen to for comfort. In a way, it reminds me of who I am. My favorites as a child included Mya, Aaliyah, Brandy, and Destiny’s Child–just to name a few. To this day, those artist are still my favorites along with extensive catalogue of many more talented artist.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane and enjoy some musical classics from the 90’s/00/s.
Let’s start with this classic from Usher. In elementary school, I thought Usher was the hottest guy in the world! I melted every time he made his appearance on Moesha…LOL
Usher “You Make Me Wanna”
Janet Jackson “I Get So Lonely”
(I can’t find a clear version of this video)
Mya, Blackstreet, Mase, & Blinky Blink “Take Me There”
This song makes me sad every single time. I literally tearing up after I pressed play…
City High ft. Eve “Caramel”
Next “Too Close”
702 “All I Want”
D’Angelo “How Does it Feel”
Outkast “Ms. Jackson”
Aaliyah “4 Page Letter”
Wow, this most was a little bit more emotional for me than I expected…lol. Music does that to me, what can I say? Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed this throwback post. I plan to do more musical throwbacks so stay tuned!
