Tongan Olympic Swimmer, Amini Fonua, makes friends in Brazil in a sweet way. “It’s hot and he needed an ice cream–and a thank you” he says as he passes out free ice cream to one of many workers in Brazil in the clip below.
“Some of us appreciate what you do for us.” 🍦
Fonua is from Tonga, where being gay is not celebrated. In a recent interview, he discussed how the Christian based, conservative country condemns homosexuality. He talks about how there is a need in his country to welcome ALL tourist which is why he has dreams of starting a LGBT resource center in hopes of making his country more tolerant. He plans to return back to the island in September.
During the interview, he also discusses how the Brazil Olympics are a lot more gay than the 2012 London games. Also according to Fonua, there are a lot more gay/bisexual Olympians than you may think. 😉
We trade Ryan Loche for Amini Fonua!
Oops–sorry, I was think’n out loud…
