Okay…so what…I’m a little late on this.
Last month, Janelle Monáe released a music video in support of her single, “Make Me Feel.” The video screams PRINCE, PRINCE, PRINCE. Part of me, pushes for artists to create music that will keep them in their own lane. Meaning, all artists are obviously influenced by someone/something, but in this particular case if you didn’t know any better, you might think that this is a Prince re-make.
With that being said, when it’s done RIGHT, I can’t complain. This was done RIGHT, and it just makes sense for her. Janelle Monáe has a funny lane in music in my opinion because although I love her style, music, charisma…etc, I’m usually not playing her music during my day to day life. But I freakin’ love her!
Get into the video below and then I’ll discuss some more of my thoughts
This song/video feels like her official “coming out” party? Whether she’s just playing a character or not, I don’t know. But I could totally see Janelle Monáe being open when it comes to her sexuality. I love how the song/video takes the idea of sexuality and BI-sexuality and makes it a simple concept–which it is!
“That’s just the way you make me feel.”
Simple as that.
The video is fun, playful, edgy…I could go on. Honestly, I’d never thought I’d see the day where Janelle Monáe would be practically naked in a music video. Early in her music career, she was known for wearing suits and not showing any skin. But artists do evolve and this appears to be a way for her to open up to her fans a little more.
What do you guys think of “Make Me Feel?”
