Is Andre Grey Really a Changed Man or is He Just Doing a Little Damage Control?

Andre Grey

Twenty-five year old, English football player (and by “football” I mean soccer) Andre Grey has recently caught some backlash from something he tweeted back in 2012!

I’m wondering why this is just making headlines? Of course it’s difficult (and exhausting) to go after every person who says something hateful about the gay community, but it is important to hold as many people accountable as possible.

According to, Andre has since deleted his tweet while asking for forgiveness. He was quoted stating,

“Firstly, I want to offer a sincere and unreserved apology to anybody I may have offended in relation to these tweets.

“The tweets were posted four years ago when I was a completely different person to the man I am now.

“I was at a very different point in my life back then – one that I’ve worked hard to move on from.”

He added:

“To clarify, I do not hold the beliefs written in those tweets whatsoever.

“I can assure everybody that I am absolutely not homophobic and as said previously I can only apologise and ask for forgiveness to anyone I offended.

“Thankfully I am not the guy I was back then and will continue to work hard both on and off the pitch to become a better person.”

A couple days ago, Pharrell went on the Ellen Show and stated that “there is no space for any type of prejudice in 2017.” Since this tweet was in 2012, should we give Andre a past? Being that he does claim to be a changed man, all we can do is take his word for it. We all have work to do on ourselves and it’s great to see that he is no longer spreading hateful and hurtful messages.
