Congrats! Sports Illustrated Presents Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award

Last night, December 6, 2017, former 49ers Quarterback, Colin Kaepernick was presented with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award for his social activism over the past year. I’m sure it was made no coincidence that he was presented the award by Beyonce, who took a lot of heat after her 2016 performance of “Formation.”

Throughout 2017, Colin Kaepernick has caused a lot of conversation and controversy as he silently protested during the 2016-17 football season by kneeling on one knee during the National Anthem. As a result, he wasn’t picked up by any team the following season. It was looking hopeful for Kaepernick at one point as the Baltimore Ravens were looking to sign him, but then his girlfriend tweeted this:

During the on-going 2017 NFL season, his peers showed their support as many kneeled during the anthem. With or without the NFL, Kaepernick is on a mission to let his voice be heard!

In addition to Kaepernick receiving the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, he was recently named GQ Citizen of the Year.
