3 Easy Ways to Make Sure You’re Drinking Enough Water

Now that I’ve been putting more focus, yet again, on my personal fitness goals, I’ve recently made a few lifestyle changes. One thing that I haven’t always been too consistent at doing is drinking enough water. I’m sure many of you can relate.

Our personal trainers are constantly telling us to drink water, drink water, DRINK WATER, while sounding like a broken record. Well they’re right! You can drink protein shakes to build muscle and you can drink Gatorade to replenish your electrolytes, but still nothing compares to good, old-fashioned water!

There are many benefits from water like flushing out toxins and simply keeping our bodies hydrated. Generally speaking, you should be drinking 6-8 glasses of water each day. However, if you’re like me and trying to gain muscle and lose fat for the summer, you should up that amount to 1/2 gallon to one gallon each day.

According to BodyBuilding.com, “Water is especially important when following a ‘high protein’ diet.” The article also goes on to say that, “if you’re eating big to gain weight, then you need even more water to help your kidneys do their work.” To sum this concept up in one sentence, if you’re kidneys are unable to function properly than you will not burn as much fat as you could be!

Consuming water is a simple concept, but still it takes discipline. Don’t worry though because once you get into the habit of drinking enough water each day, it’ll become second nature!

Here are 3 easy tips to make sure you’re are drinking enough water:


1. Carry a Water Bottle Wherever You Go

This is something that has definitely helped me because for one, a water bottle can hold more water than a single cup. Keeping this in mind, you’ll only have to refill your water bottle roughly between 3 to 5 times each day. Some water bottles even have a measuring system on the side so you can keep track of how many ounces of water you’re drinking. Eight ounces of water is equal to one cup while 128 ounces is equal to one gallon. You’re welcome 🙂


2. Squeeze Lime or Lemon in Your Water

Some of us don’t like the taste of water while others simply like to add some flavor to it every so often. Squeezing limes or lemons in your water definitely adds a fresh taste while also adding additional health benefits. Most of us spend the majority of our days at work. A sad reality, I know. Cut up a weeks worth of limes/lemons, place them in a sandwich bag and leave them in your office refrigerator so you’ll have them for the week. Easy said, easy done!


3. Save Money and Boil You’re Own Water

This option can be a bit more time consuming, but it’ll save you money in the long run. Technically you’re probably already paying a water bill each month, so wouldn’t you want to take full advantage of what you’re already paying for? Spring water in the supermarket is nothing but sterilized tap water anyway. You can sterilize your own tap water while doing so in the comfort of your home. Besides, most of the cost for water sold in stores probably covers the cost of the packaging.
